Chris Renzema: Autumn Has Arrived
Chris Renzema makes an exciting return to Liberty University, providing an autumn concert experience.
The autumn season has just begun, and Chris Renzema set the scene for this yearly aesthetic with a beautiful set at Liberty University. Chris is no stranger to the city of Lynchburg, marking this show as his fifth performance at the Vines Center. With an arena packed full of students and fans alike, it was the perfect setting for a concert that glorifies God, in a personal yet relatable way. As the temperature begins to drop, and coffee becomes more of a necessity, take some time to get cozy and discover a Chris Renzema song you can relate to, many of which were played at this show!
To set the aforementioned scene, Chris Renzema made his way to the stage with his band and guitar, beginning with a bang as he played upbeat hits “Faith?!” and “Holy Ghost”. There was an immediately noticeable, welcoming warmth provided by the usage of orange stage lights, further providing the show with a unique, amber-like fireplace glow. The branch-out to disco-style spotlights, as well as blue hues, was also a welcome addition to songs such as “Square One”. This song followed a statement by Chris, stating “I think we’re all here because we had an experience with Jesus”.
Following the louder songs were a set of softer, beautiful renditions of “How To Be Yours”, which was exclusively on the piano and surrounded by majestic magenta lights, followed by “Old Friend”. Chris was very interactive and personal with the audience, making jokes about his shyness in between every other song. He countered these jokes with personal thoughts based on his songs, all dedicated to his understanding of God, which complimented the evening well. This led to him deciding to play a song he doesn’t usually play live, that being “All My Worst Ideas”, shortly followed by the beautifully unique “Manna (After All These Years)”.
Hearing the soft plucking of an acoustic guitar, alongside the haunting vocals of “Adonai”, made for the peak of the evening, as the synchronization of every single audience member felt like a little peak into what worship in heaven will sound like. Chris came humbly with personal songs he felt called to share, and that speaks volumes. He concluded his set with the fan favorite “Springtime”, highlighting how God’s Love is always worth the wait. He stated “The Love of God, the Grace of God, the Mercy of God… those things all come whether we notice them or not”. He returned for a fitting and desired encore with “God Is Love”, then stated that he didn’t want to leave us on a “chill note”, which led to a loud conclusion with “Fountain”.
Chris Renzema came to tell us about his God, who just so happens to be mine, and just so happens to be yours. And He is Love.
